Interview with Sherrif Karamat

Sherrif Karamat, Chief Operating Officer at PCMA (Professional Convention Management Association) gave an outstanding presentation on a Strategic Approach to Alliances, Sponsorships and Partnerships.

Over the past four years Sherrif has overseen and implemented PCMA's strategic partnership program that has resulted in revenue growth of over 2,300 percent. This unprecedented growth occured while he reduced the number of PCMA partners by more than 60% and simultaneously increased partner value and satisfaction.

Sherrif also oversees PCMA's print and digital media advertising and under his leadership revenues have increased by more than fifty percent.

Interview with Kari Lambe

In June, Ontario's Deerhurst Resort joined a storied group of landmark hotels from around the globe as the host venue of the 36th annual Group of Eight gathering of world leaders. Being the host venue of an international event of this magnitude is a daunting task and required years of planning and effective coordination with numerous stakeholders and Government agencies that come into play with an event of this calibre.

Kari gave our conference delegates a "behind the scenes" look into the world of planning for the G8 Summit, as she shared what was involved, the scope of the event, planning cycles, logistics, challenges that were handled and the valuable lessons learned from staging this prestigious world-class event!

It was a terrific presentation and she even shared photos!

Interview with Derrick Leue

As an independent meeting and event planner, you are held accountable for all aspects of the event you are organizing, managing and running. You need to prepare for the unexpected, and have a risk management strategy in place. In his Fireside Chat, Derrick Leue, a meeting and event industry insurance specialist from LMS PROLINK Ltd., spoke on how to manage risk, the unique insurance requirements of independent event planners and what insurance solutions are available to protect your company, clients, attendees and reputation.

Interview with Ian Blay

Ian Blay, Regional Sales Manager, Corporate Events at ClubLink Corporation hosted one of the conference Fireside Chats. Ian spoke to Adding the Wow Factor to your Golf Tournaments. At this session, participants learned how to best utilize the Pro’s expertise during the planning process and creative ways to involve them with their program. They also discussed various tournament formats and activities, and unique hole sponsorship and prize giveaway ideas.

Interview with Frank Foster

In his session, Frank Foster, of Frank Foster and Associates, spoke to Selling Skills for Tougher Times; a fast-paced and interactive workshop that highlighted the importance placed on selling skills as a requirement to succeed in today's tougher environment. The session focused on protecting margins, growing your business, maximizing your time, how to stay competitive in a price-sensitive market, and provided some thought-provoking discussions on the changes in selling.

The tables are turned!

Donna Papacosta of Trafalgar Communications has been extremely involved with this year's CanSPEP conference, guiding us in all things social media. Donna also hosted a Fireside Chat, speaking to planners about using new media to market events. In her chat, Donna discussed  how to plan a new media marketing strategy, and create pre-event buzz by using tools such as Twitter, blogs, Facebook, LinkedIn, video, and podcasts. She reviewed how to select the right tools, how to create and leverage event content in marketing events, and tools to measure the success of these initiatives.

Interview with Ian Kennedy

Ian Kennedy, President of Essential Communications Ltd., spoke to "Energaging": Staying on Top of Your Game in Difficult Times. His session explored how to remain fully energized and engaged on your goals; how to persevere and find your 'A' game when constant industry changes, difficult clients, and more work than you can handle chips away at your resolve. In addition, participants learned the 10 tips for “energaging” to stay on top!

Interview with Doug Bolger

Doug Bolger ignited our inner "spark" on the very first night! He took the CAMP theme (Connections and Meaningful Partnerships) and he ran with it. He opened the conference with a powerful Keynote session and had the "sparks" flying! His Camp Night was filled with songs, skits and fun times. It was a great way to meet other campers, make new connections and partnerships, while engaging in team activities.

Doug also spoke at a workshop the following day on Client Needs Assessments, where participants learned an 8 step needs analysis approach to better deliver exactly what the client needs.

Interview with Bill Graham

Bill Graham, CanSPEP Member and President of Golden Rule Marketing, spoke at one of the conference's popular Fireside Chats. Bill spoke to the “ins and outs” of planning incentive travel packages and airline group bookings for clients. In the session, he discussed how an airline manages their inventory for group bookings; when a charter makes sense; and what information you need when choosing and evaluating various off-shore destinations.
